April 24, 2013
It was a special day at Wharton Middle School in Summit, IL today. All the students had worked hard for the last few weeks raising money to help fight hunger in their very own community of Summit. The students raised over $4,000.00 that went to support their School activities as well as prepare nutritious meals for local residents. Over 4,000 meals were prepared today and were donated to St. Blaise food pantry in Summit, IL.
In addition to raising funds for their School and the packing of 4,000 meals, Wharton Middle School donated $1,000.00 of the money raised to Outreach Inc. to be used for a future packaging event. This donation is slated to be used to pack 4,000 meals by Veterans for Veterans on June 14th, 2013 as part of the "Meals For Heroes" campaign hosted by the West Suburban Chamber of Commerce.
Over 100 students participated in the event over two shifts. The students worked together determined to pack all meals before their shift had concluded.
FEED6 sends a big thank you to the students as well as Wharton Middle School's principal Carol Brackins and her mighty faculty for putting this event together.
