Holy Apostles packs 100,000 meals and donates them to project "HOPE"
January 20, 2024
On January 14, 2023 Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church hosted their Eighth annual meal packaging event. Over 300 people came out that day to pack 100,000 meals of Pasta with Tomato Basil. Since 2017, Holy Apostles has packed over 800,000 meals that they have donated to those in need.
From the very young to very old, regardless of size, infirmity, or condition, these volunteers put on aprons, hairnets, and gloves, and joined hearts and hands in producing nutritious, flavorful meals specifically designed to nurture bodies and lift spirits.
These meals were picked up by Project Hope and distributed to local families in need. The mission of HOPE (Humanitarian Outreach and Philanthropic Engagement) is to partner with parishes in the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago (“Metropolis”) and with local networks to help provide food security and stable housing to those in need.
While food safety and quality were emphasized, the experience was spiritual, enriching, fun, and for many, transformative. Volunteers formed into production lines, assembling meals from bins of pasta and soy, tomato basil packages, and carefully weighing, heat-sealing and then packing into boxes. And when the boxing was complete, joining in a throaty cheer to celebrate their gift of life to those in need.
Thank you Holy Apostles for being a major part in helping to end hunger.
