Feed Our Community Day
October 19, 2013
North Riverside, IL
The Riverside/North Riverside Covenant of Churches held their annual "Feed Our Community Day" on October 19, 2013. The event attracted over 200 volunteers that came out to pack nearly 40,000 meals that were distributed to local food pantries including:
Catholic Charities
North Riverside Rec. Department
A Safe Haven
Christian Life Center
St. Barbs
St. Cletus
Riverside Township
Ebenezer Food Pantry
First Presbyterian Church
This year generous sponsors including Restoration America came to the event and helped pack the meals. Restoration America donated $500 which was enough to prepare 2,000 meals that were distributed to homeless veterans at A safe Haven. Additionally, sponsors such as Dr. Pizza and Super Tony's donated food to keep the volunteers fueled throughout the day. Riverside Foods once again acted as a donation location. Riverside Foods collected nearly $700 from loyal shoppers at the cash register for the event.
The Village of North Riverside graciously donated the space allowing the event to be held this year at the North Riverside Commons
Plans are currently in motion for the 2014 Feed Our Community Day. The 2014 goal is to raise $25,000 and pack 100,000 meals.
Local business interested in pledging for next year's event can e-mail the Riverside / North Riverside Covenant of Churches at [email protected].
A big thank you to the Riverside / North Riverside Covenant of Churches and all of this years sponsors. Your continued support in our fight to end hunger is remarkable.
