April 21, 2013
On Sunday April 21, 2013 over 150 volunteers came to Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church in Glenview, IL to pack nutritious meals for the food insecure. Nearly 40,000 enriched meals of pasta & cheese were packed for hungry and homeless children, families, seniors, and veterans in our communities.
Volunteers ranged in ages from as young as 5 years old to over 80 years old. Side by side these volunteers worked for over 3 hours to prepare these meals. When the event was over, everyone felt fulfilled knowing that they took part in helping to fight hunger in our very own communities.
The majority of the food was picked on Monday April 22, 2013 by the Northern Illinois Food Bank. The food will be distributed to over 600 food pantries that Northern Illinois Food Bank serves. In addition to the meals donated to Northern Illinois Food Bank, 3,324 meals were delivered to the Northfield Food Pantry in Glenview, IL.
