The Chicago Wolves Ice Hockey Team, which over eight years has collaborated with Feed6-Outreach in packaging 700,000 meals for food-insecure veterans, has now joined with us in planning and hosting a seniors-focused event during which we will prepare 50,000 nutritious, flavorful meals for our most vulnerable senior neighbors.
Feed6 is a Chicago-based, all-volunteer, nutrition-focused movement, operating under the umbrella of Outreach Inc., an internationally respected 501(C)(3) nonprofit. During the last 15 years, Feed6 has joined with scores of organizations, hundreds of sponsors and donors, and thousands of volunteers to package and distribute 9.5 million meals to food-insecure neighbors in the Chicago region; while its international parent Outreach, accredited by Charity Navigator, ranked Platinum by Guidestar, and honored by two US Presidents at the White House, has been responsible for the global distribution of over 1 billion meals since its inception in 2004.
Through its innovative mobile food packaging program, Feed6-Outreach brings together hundreds, sometimes thousands, of volunteers - in church halls, school gyms, hotel ballrooms, and conference centers to join hearts and hands in packaging nutritious meals for food-insecure neighbors. These are extraordinary spirit-enriching, celebratory events of giving and caring in which anyone of any age or background can participate and extend love to those in need.
Volunteers are organized into small group assembly lines, preparing delicious, nutritious meals - all fortified with protein, nutrients, and vitamins - and bagged, labeled, weighed, and boxed, employing safety and hygienic precautions.
Meals are distributed to the hungry and food-insecure in our community through the Northern Illinois Food Bank, the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Project Hope, the Salvation Army, and dozens of local pantries throughout the Chicago region.
