Community Comes Together at St. Demetrios to Pack 50,100 Meals for Those in Need

Today, more than 120 volunteers gathered at St. Demetrios Church in Libertyville, Illinois, for a powerful day of service in partnership with Feed6. Together, the group packed an incredible 50,100 meals of pasta in a tomato basil sauce, all destined for individuals and families facing food insecurity across the region. This was there third event bringing their total to 98,100 meals.
The event brought together a diverse group of community members, families, and local supporters, all united by a shared mission: to make a meaningful impact in the fight against hunger.
“This is what St. Demetrios is all about—bringing people together to create real, tangible change,” said Demetri Fardelas, Parish Council President. “In just a few hours, this group made a difference that will reach thousands of people in need.” The congregation was joined by members of the United Protestant Church of Grayslake and employees from Home Depot.
Following the event, meals were distributed to several impactful organizations serving the 70,000 food insecure neighbors in Lake County through multiple agencies including:
These organizations will ensure the meals are delivered directly to those who need them most, extending the reach of today’s effort across Northern Illinois.
The energy inside St. Demetrios was electric, as volunteers worked side by side in an efficient assembly-line format—packing, sealing, and boxing meals while building connections and strengthening community bonds.
Feed6 continues to expand its mission of addressing food insecurity through high-impact, volunteer-driven events like this one. With millions of meals already distributed, today’s event marks another milestone in the organization’s ongoing efforts to give back.
