Lemont High School Students Package 125,000 Meals in One Day to Fight Hunger Across Chicago
In an extraordinary display of student leadership, community spirit, and compassion, hundreds of Lemont High School students and faculty came together on Saturday, April 12, 2025, to package an incredible 125,000 nutritious meals for children, families, seniors, and veterans facing food insecurity in the greater Chicago area.
The high-impact service event, powered by Lemont’s National Honor Society and led by NHS President Mitchell Sowa, was the result of weeks of intense planning, fundraising, and collaboration with hunger-relief partner Feed6. With guidance from faculty advisors Trisha Weber and Marek Dron, the NHS steering committee rallied the community to raise $50,000 in record time—a fundraising milestone never before achieved at Lemont.
The day wasn’t just productive—it was electric. With live DJs Matas Bruzila and Mateusz Morawa spinning energetic beats, volunteers danced, swayed, and smiled their way through two high-energy shifts, breaking production records while turning service into celebration.
The packaged meals—Pasta with Tomato Basil Sauce—were picked up the same day by the Greater Chicago Food Depository for distribution to local communities in need.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mitchell Sowa, the NHS team, Lemont’s dedicated faculty and staff, and the many generous donors whose passion and support turned this bold vision into a life-changing reality. This event was more than a meal—it was a movement.
